General description
The Global Network Services Operations Team is responsible for the technical operations of DB
Schenker’s global Network infrastructure.
The Engineers in the Team are responsible for providing 2 nd and 3 rd line support and operations
of the internal data communications systems, including LANs, WLANs and WANs and
associated solutions. The tasks includes, but are not limited to: implementing and configuring
network systems, supporting and troubleshooting network problems and coordinating with
vendors.
The local Senior Network Engineer reports functionally to the TeamLead of Global Network
Operation in the branch, and is part of the Global Network Operations team within the
organization Digital Branch Infrastructure Services, which a unit in the Global Operations &
Infrastructure Services (GOIS) department.
The role as Senior Network Engineer will primarily focus on the tasks related to the
implementation and operations of the new SDWAN service which is being established at the
moment, using Fortinet overlay technologies. While the SDWAN operations will be the primary
focus of the role, the network team is also providing other services which may also need to be
supported to a certain degree, based on the skills and knowledge of the engineer.
Key tasks & responsibilities
Responsibility for the professional operations of all delivered services in line with SLA’s
and stakeholder requirements.
Aligns with his/her strong functional line manager.
Execute work assignments.
Immediately raise escalations and suggestions to circumvent potential issues and
roadblocks, proactively and reactively.
Identify, research, and resolve 2nd & 3 rd level Technical Support problems related to the
SD-WAN, Firewalls, and other related Network components.
Working together with 3 rd party Service Provider and Vendors on Incidents and Requests
Following up on Problem tickets and creating RCAs as well as identifying improvements
and preventing mitigations and implementing any agreed follow up activities.
Identifying and closing Single Point of Failures.
Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness.
Create, oversee and test security measures (e.g. access authentication and disaster
recovery).
Testing and Implementation of new Hardware and Software versions.
Working closely with Infrastructure Architecture for new solutions.
Support central / regional / local Projects and Demands with all Network related topics.
Execution of project tasks in IT infrastructure projects and responsibility to provide
project.
Continuously optimize the network regarding performance, reliability, security and cost.
Development and implementation of technical guidelines and standards.
Assurance of IT-based service quality in accordance with agreed SLA’s/OLA’s.
Ensuring system integrity and security through necessary measures, for example log
analysis and patch management.
Coordination of service processes in close cooperation with other IT process owners
(incl. Incident, Change and Configuration Mgmt.).
Security management for the service components.
Create documentation, instructions and conduct training to other team members and to
our 1 st line support.
